Does an officer have to read me my rights before asking me any questions?
No. A police officer is not required to read you your rights unless you are in custody. During a routine traffic violation you are usually not yet in custody and an officer is not required to read you your rights. Once in custody however, before the police question you, they must advise you of your "Miranda rights". Also, a police officer would be required to read you your rights before he questions you about another crime unrelated to your traffic violation.
